Study Number 21 JEHOVAH ROHI – THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD (cont)

When you see the Rohi relationship remember that the LORD will lead you and feed you. He will care for you and guide you, will bring judgment and keep you from folly and harm.

Pro 15:14  The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.  “on foolish talking and jesting; on foolish and unlearned questions; on foolish and false doctrines; on foolish and hurtful lusts; on wind and ashes, a deceived heart having turned them aside: they take pleasure and satisfaction in those things; feed their fancy with them and feast upon them, which shows what fools they are; and such all unregenerate men be.”J. Gill

God will lead His people like a Shepherd
Isaiah 40 :10 – 11 says “ Behold the Lord God will come with a strong hand, and His arm will rule for Him:  behold, His reward is with Him, and His work before Him. He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arms, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
In verse 10 we see the Rohi ruling with a strong arm and his reward is with Him. He will subdue all His enemies. Now in verse 11 there is the tender shepherd caring for His sheep and lambs. His rule over his enemies is strong but He is gentle with those of His flock.
Eze 34:22  therefore I will save My flock, and they shall no more be a prey. And I will judge between lamb and lamb.
Eze 34:23  And I will set up one Shepherd over them, and He shall feed them, My servant David. He shall feed them, and He shall be their Shepherd.
David was a type of Christ who is the Good Shepherd. Even though David was a faithful leader and Shepherd of Israel he had his faults. But our Saviour is the perfect Shepherd and He cares for His ‘little flock’ with great tenderness and righteousness. See especially John 5:30 and Heb 10:7
The GOOD SHEPHERD

Joh_10:14; I am the Good Shepherd, and I know those that are Mine, and I am known by those who are Mine.
All that our Shepherd does for us is good. This word good means “beautiful, handsome, excellent, eminent, choice, surpassing, precious, useful, suitable, commendable, admirable” Thayer’s Definition.
He knows us and our individual needs. He carries those who are struggling; He applies ointment to those who are wounded. His eye is always on his sheep for he is the Good Shepherd protecting us from harm and the wolves.
Am known of mine - That is, He is known and loved as their Saviour and Friend. They have seen their sins, and dangers: and wants; they have felt their need of a Saviour; they have come to him, and they have found him and his doctrines to be such as they need, and they have loved him. And as a flock follows and obeys its kind shepherd, so they follow and obey him who leads them beside the still waters, and makes them to lie down in green pastures. Barnes

Heb_13:20; Now may God who gives peace, and brought Jesus, our Lord, up again from among the dead--even Him who, by virtue of the blood of the eternal Covenant, is the great Shepherd of the sheep--
Heb 13:21  fully equip you with every grace that you may need for the doing of His will, producing in us that which will truly please Him through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory to the Ages of the Ages! Amen.
Notes The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. The hireling runs away when there is danger. Our Great Sheherd rose from the dead having shed His blood for us. It is the Blood of the everlasting Covenant. We are brought into right relationship with God and are admitted to the ‘flock of God’ only on the understanding that we have been washed in the precious blood of Christ.’ He has ratified the New Covenant with His own blood. See also 1Pe_2:25; 1Pe_5:4.

Applications
1.      Remember, let Your own Shepherd deliver you from folly. All ungodly jokes and foolishness. Don’t just fritter away you life with meaningless chatter and entertainment. The Lord will lead you into green pasture and beside still waters.
2.      Our Shepherd will be severe with His enemies but He will carry his lambs in His bosom. There are two sides to His nature and we are to know that we cannot play with rule in our lives. We need to know that there are consequences.
3.      He shed His blood for us laying down His life for us. His resurrection is proof that our sins have been dealt with. The Eternal relationship had been establish and we are His forever.
