Study Number 22 JEHOVAH SHAMMAH – The LORD is there.

Ezekiel 48:35 “And the name of the city from that day shall be JEHOVAH IS THERE.

Ezekiel was Prophesying in Babylon concerning the future of Jerusalem and the temple of the Lord.
The first temple in Jerusalem had been deserted as the Shekinah (the Glory of God) departed.
This is similar to when the ark of the Covenant was captured in the Time of Eli the High Priest and Ichabod[1] was pronounced as the name of the son born.

The Shekinah Glory of God was not in the Second Temple though Jesus did say that His Father’s house shall be a House of Prayer.
Speaking of the Millenial Temple and the New Jerusalem Ezekiel speaks of Jehovah Shammah: “The presence of the LORD will be there.”
The Jews had been taken off as prisoners to Babylon and they were full of sorrow. They hung their harps o the willows and cried, “How shall we sing JEHOVAH’S song in a strange land.” They were in a sorry state being captives to the Babylonians.

Psa 137:5  If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget her skill.
Psa 137:6  Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, If I remember thee not; If I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.
By the waters of Babylon we hung our harps on the willows and sat down.

Ezekiel’s prophecy brought the people great hope of a restoration to their land. This was JEHOVAH’S Pledge of His Presence in such a  glorious way that they could never have imagined.
Applications
1.      The presence of God in our lives is the most important thing. Without Him our lives are worthless and lonely. When the Ark was captured they named the child Ichabod (the Glory has departed). Seek the Shekinah Glory of God to be with you now.
2.      JEHOVAH SHAMMAH wants to have fellowship with you now. He has promised to never leave you nor forsake you. He is present and alive in you right now. Seek Him with all your heart.

[1] 1 Samuel 4:21
And she named the child Ichabod,.... Which some render, "where is the glory?" as in the margin of our Bibles; but it signifies "no glory", as Jarchi and Kimchi interpret it; her husband being dead, she gives her child its name; the reason for which name follows:

saying, the glory is departed from Israel: the God of glory, or the glorious Lord, was departed from Israel; the ark, the symbol of his presence, being taken from them, and carried captive by the enemy; see Psa_78:61.
