Study Number 26 EL ELYON – THE GOD MOST HIGH

We are all incomplete in our natures and personalities. We have areas which have been damaged and broken by sin and the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God is in the Restoration Business, renewing or broken lives.

The Meaning of EL ELYON

It means “God Most High” or “The Mighty One Most High”. This name holds great authority on our behalf. M.H. It come from the root verb alah to ascend, to go up, to climb, to exalt. It means that “THERE IS NO EXISTING THING – NO GOD – THAT IS HIGHER THAN “THE MOST HIGH GOD’. M.H.

He is the Owner and Possessor of All Things: the heavens, the earth and everything in them. His Name is exalted on high far above all others. There is none to compare with Him. EL ELYON The Most High God.

Satan coveted that name for Himself.

Isa 14:13  For you have said in your heart, I will go up to the heavens, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.

Isa 14:14  I will go up above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. [EL ELYON]

Isa 14:15  Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the Pit.

Note the five “I will” statements in these verses. Satan’s problem is pride. God, the Mighty One Most High has the answer for the pride of Satan now and always will have. He will be thrown down to the fires of hell. God has the last word for anyone who exalts themselves or who wishes to challenge His authority.

Luk_14:11  For whoever exalts himself shall be abased, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.

Speaking of the Ant-Christ  we read in 2Th_2:4  “who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, setting himself forth, that he is God.”

Applications.

1.      There is only One “Most High God” and He is exalted above all, far above all. Satan and the Ant-Christ are jealous of this position and try to exalt themselves but they will be thrown down in the Lake of Fire which burns forever.

2.      The proud who exalt themselves will be abased, brought down. All proud rulers and men will be abased. God exalts the Humble. Humble yourself and God will lift you up.
